I fell in love a long time ago with the idea of couples photos outside of just “normal” situations that people get photos taken: weddings, anniversaries, other people’s weddings…..
Couples clearly have my heart and soul and it reflects in the uniqueness of each time I’m in the presence of two humans, two soulmates, lovers, friends. The reason we take photos is to remember, but also to bring together. Relationships are hard as fuck and we aren’t always privvy to see the inner workings of a relationship, even when a couple shows up to have photos taken. We don’t know the underlying story.
As photographers, we are healers and storytellers and therapists and creators. Stepping into time with a couple is quite literally investing stock in them and letting them be just as they are on the day that they come to you.
So photographers, we don’t always get to see the full picture, but know that a photo is never a photo, and the time doesn’t have to be ideal for images. Every chapter of the story is relevant and it is our honor to get to write a few sentences.
Ya’ll I’m really into the metaphors today. Love you bunches. Now look at how cute Rachel + Michael are.
